Sakarya University launches Turkey’s first ‘Values Education MA Program.’
The program included in SAU Institute of Educational Sciences aims to train competent educators for the course of ‘Values Education’ which has been lectured since 2005.
Although there are similar programs in other countries, ‘Values Education MA Program’ is launched in Sakarya University for the first time. The applicants are required to have 3 year teaching experience.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sevgi Coşkun, Chair of the Program, states that they are excited since it is the first program in Turkey. However, they are fearful since the first things may have some deficiencies. For this reason, they expect some tolerance. Coşkun notes that they will do their best in order to create a perfect program. Prof. Dr. İsmail Güleç, Director of Institute of Educational Sciences, says that they give priority to open interdisciplinary programs and they encourage academicians.
Güleç notes that they expect a great number of applications for this program and the program will fill an existent gap. ‘Values Education’ course has been included in the curriculum since 2005 in Turkey. However, lack of teachers who have education in this area precludes the implementation of the course. ‘Values Education MA Program’ launched at Department of Elementary Education in SAU Institute of Educational Sciences is supposed to fill this deficiency.
