Conference titled “Youth, Values and University” is organized by Sakarya University Academic and Social Development Centre (SASGEM).
Higher Education Council Member Prof. Dr. Durmuş Günay, SAU President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Elmas and SAU Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Sami Güçlü attended the conference which was held in SAU Culture and Congress Centre as speaker.
YÖK Member Prof. Dr. Durmuş Günay talked about historical development process of academy and university concepts in his speech.
“Development in University”
President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Elmas stated that they created an open-minded student profile and students had an interaction with changing technology so development in the university continued in this parallel. Prof. Dr. Elmas said “Having knowledge of a job which has not been defined yet or using a technological device which has not been invented yet is related to the competence of that person. As a university, we are seeking for the way of giving competence to our students and we shape the university in this way.”
“Youth is a Modern-day Concept”
SAU Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Sami Güçlü stated that the concept of youth emerged in the 19th century. He said “This concept did not exist before because human life was so short.” He added “Turkish youth protects the traditional values more than youth in Western world. However, in the society there are some believes that the youth is in great danger.”
