1st International Symposium on Innovative Technologies in Engineering and Science was organized by Sakarya University

Numerous academicians from national and international field attended the symposium. YÖK Member of Executive Board Prof. Dr. Durmuş Günay and Emeritus Prof. Dr. Sadettin Ökten attended the opening of the symposium.

Opening remarks were given by Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Elmas, Rector of Sakarya University. Giving a presentation on ‘Science, Technology and Engineering’, Prof. Dr. Durmuş Günay emphasized that philosophy was important for the close relationship of technology and engineering. Durmuş said “Philosophy provides a basis for science.”

In the second session of the day, Prof. Dr. Sadettin Ökten made a presentation on ‘Civilization and Technology.”

Ökten gave information about the perception of civilization on community, and said “There are different views about civilization in our society. Some people say that it is a monster, and others praise to the skies. The important thing is what we gain from the civilization.”

Ökten said “Mathematics is the basic element of science. However, mathematics is not needed for philosophy. There is no need after all. Modern civilization is formed by science which depends on mathematics and by philosophy which does not need mathematics at all.”
